Triveni Sangam, located in Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh, is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in India. It is the confluence of three rivers—the holy Ganga (Ganges), the sacred Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati, which is believed to flow invisibly beneath the surface. This confluence is not just a geographical meeting of rivers but a spiritual junction where faith, history, and mythology come together, making it a revered destination for millions of pilgrims and seekers.

The Ganga, with its clear waters, and the Yamuna, with its darker blue hue, visibly merge at this point, while the invisible Saraswati is said to join them beneath the waters, symbolizing hidden knowledge and spiritual depth. The confluence is regarded as Tirthraj—the “King of Holy Places”—and is believed to wash away sins and help achieve moksha (liberation).

Triveni Sangam holds immense religious significance, especially during major festivals and gatherings. The most famous among these is the Kumbh Mela, held every 12 years, and the Ardh Kumbh, every 6 years. During these events, millions of devotees from across India and the world gather to take the ritual bath (Snan) at the Sangam, believing that the sacred waters purify the soul and bring spiritual merit.

Apart from its spiritual value, Triveni Sangam is surrounded by several other significant landmarks, including the historic Allahabad Fort built by Emperor Akbar, Anand Bhavan—the ancestral home of the Nehru-Gandhi family, and various ancient temples.
